Bio Notes: Charles Steward Smith was born in 1858, the son Reading architect Charles Steward. He was articled to his father from 1875 to 1879 and subsequently worked as assistant to Henman & Harrison, and to Higgs & Hill, builders. His father took him into partnership in 1893. The partnership was joined in 1908 by Harry Hutt.

The elder Charles Smith died on 6 February 1912. Charles Steward Smith died in 1923.
