Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Bothwell Steel | Designation: | | Born: | 29 January 1880 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | John Bothwell Steel was born on 29 January 1880 and articled to James Salmon & Son from 1895 to 1900, attending classes at Glasgow School of Art and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College. At the end of his articles he became an assistant first to John Hutchison for three years, then to John Bennie Wilson for one. He then joined C J Zamorski as head draughtsman, and four years later he moved to the office of Bryden & Robertson as assistant, being promoted to chief draughtsman two years later. He was admitted LRIBA in late 1910, his proposers being Alexander McGibbon, William Forest Salmon and Andrew Robertson, and his nomination papers draw particular attention to his 'complete knowledge of steel construction'.
