Bio Notes: James Grant Cowie was born about 1872, the son of Andrew Cowie, roadman, and his wife, Janet Anderson. He practised in Motherwell and Wishaw from at least the 1890s to 1947. He had formed a partnership with _____ Miller (this may in fact be Robert Millar who also practised in Motherwell) by 1919 and later his son joined the firm, taking over on the death of his father in March 1947. The name Cowie & Miller was retained at least until 1957.

Cowie was married twice, first to Marion Baillie, and second to Agnes Williamson.
