At that date J J Roberts, who was not a member of the RIBA, and Alexander Davidson Paul, who studied at the School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art and was admitted ARIBA in 1954, formed a partnership.
John Jack Roberts was the nephew of the architect Thomas Roberts with whom he had trained. He had spent some time in London in the 1930s. During the Second World War he served on Maltese and Russian convoys and attained the rank of Commander in the RNVR. After the war he returned to Bathgate perhaps to take over his uncle's practice. Alexander Davidson Paul was assumed into the practice. They continued to work in the Bathgate area in the 1960s and 1970s.
