Bio Notes: Alexander Shearer was born about 1816, the son of William Shearer, miner, and his wife Christian Veitch. He was a gardener who worked at Yester House in 1849. He died on 21 October 1884, being described in his will as 'sometime residing at Yester, East Lothian, afterwards at Brooklyn, Dollar'. He was survived by his wife Helen Laing. His relationship, if any, to the Alexander Shearer who was in practice at 108 West Regent Street, Glasgow c. 1879 (see separate entry) is not known.
