Basic Biographical Details

Name: Peter Reid
Designation:
Born: 18 June 1881
Died: May 1937
Bio Notes: Peter Reid was born in Edinburgh on 18 June 1881 and educated at the Royal High School. He was articled to Sir Robert Rowand Anderson, then of Anderson, Simon & Crawford, Edinburgh in 1899. Whilst there he attended classes at the Edinburgh School of Applied Art, where he was awarded a travelling scholarship which enabled him to make sketching tours of the English cathedrals and university towns in 1903 and 1904. His nomination papers state that in December of the latter year he became chief assistant to William Williamson of Kirkcaldy and moved to Inverkeithing, but they also indicate that he assisted Williamson on the Station Hotel in Kirkcaldy, which opened in 1903, so it is possible that the dates given on his nomination papers are not entirely correct. He was still in Williamson's office when he was admitted LRIBA on 4 December 1911, proposed by James Bow Dunn and the Edinburgh Architectural Association, which he had joined in 1908.

In the following year, 1912, Reid married Margaret Sutherland, daughter of John Sutherland; they had one son and one daughter.

Reid's address in 1930 was Park House, Inverkeithing. He died in 1937.
