In the latter year he became an assistant with James Lindsay, Glasgow, who may have been a relative, but in the following year he obtained a salaried post with the War Department. In 1905 he emigrated to Detroit to become an assistant with Donaldson & Meier with whom he remained until 1907. He pssed the qualifying exam in 1908 (?in Canada). He was still in Detroit when he was admitted ARIBA on 7 June 1909, his proposers being Nicholas __Fitzsimmons, William John Gillsland and Frederick Henry Tulloch, all of Belfast. His business address was then 1314 Penebscot Building and his home address 824 Second Avenue, both in Detroit.
