Name: James Broom
Designation:
Born:

Bio Notes: James Broom may be the son of John Broom who was a prosperous timber merchant in Bathgate or if not, he is probably related to him in some way. James Broom studied at Edinburgh College of Art and was awarded a minor travelling scholarship in 1926 (along with Morton Cowie, Charles William Gray and Robert H Matthew). He worked in partnership with William Patterson in Edinburgh in the 1930s. Together they designed and built houses speculatively which resulted in their having to withdraw from the RIAS. Patterson & Broom were declared bankrupt in 1940.
