Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Walker Knowles | Designation: | | Born: | 22 May 1855 | Died: | c. 1921 | Bio Notes: | William Walker Knowles was born on 22 May 1855 in Whiteinch, Glasgow, the eldest son of Charles Jasper Knowles, boilermaker and his wife Janet. He emigrated to Australia before 1878 the year in which he married Barbara Elizabeth McDiarmid, only daughter of the late William McDiarmid, of Sydney, and niece of John Goodsir, shipowner, of Newcastle, and Edward Goodsir, of Balmain.
Knowles practised and an architect and builder in Balmain and formed a partnership with George Arthur Down. This was dissolved in 1889. In 1892 he was declared bankrupt. This seems to have continued until after 1903. By that date he was in Pymble.
Knowles died in Sydney in 1921.
