Bio Notes: Thomas Stevenson was an Edinburgh engineer and the brother of David Stevenson, with whom he was in partnership. They were sons of Robert Stevenson (1772-1850), and brothers of Alan Stevenson with whom they previously worked in partnership as Robert Stevenson & Sons.

Thomas married Margaret Balfour. Their son Robert Louis Stevenson, caused him much disappointment by failing to enter the family firm, choosing instead to follow a literary career.
