Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Sang | Designation: | | Born: | | Died: | 14 April 1887 | Bio Notes: | John Sang was born in Kirkcaldy on 13 August 1809, the son of Edward Sang, seed merchant and Jean Nicol. He practised as a civil engineer and road surveyor from 1832, his first major contract being sections of the York-Peterborough railway. In the later 1830s he laid out a road from Boreland to Leven and was employed in Inverness and Skye. His brother William and other members of the family looked after the Kirkcaldy business while he was away.
Sang married Janet Ferguson (born 12 December 1813); William Drysdale Sang, who was born c.1850 and had joined John in partnership by 1882, may have been their son.
John Sang died on 14 April 1887 but his practice appears to have been continued under his own name thereafter as he is still listed in directories in 1894. He was survived by his wife, who died on 2 February 1891. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 28, Whyte's Causeway, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland | Business | Before 1882 | 1887 | |
