Basic Biographical Details Name: | Hugh Marr | Designation: | | Born: | c. 1803 | Died: | 24 February 1877 | Bio Notes: | Hugh Marr was born about 1803 in Douglas, Lanarkshire. By the mid-1830s he was in practice as an architect and surveyor in Lanark. His largest known commission was the County Buildings in Hope Street. He was awarded the honour of Lord Cornet in 1836 presumably conferred because of his work on the County Buildings. Marr also undertook the engineering work at Lanark Loch which he extended from a curling pond to a stretch of water of which suplied water the the town. For a time it was known as Marr's Loch. Marr founded Lanark Golf Club in 1851.
In 1870 Marr was consulted about the paving of Wellgate and Bannatyne Street in Lanark.
He married Janet Leadbetter and they had two daughters and one son by 1871. He was a mamber of the Free church in Lanark.
Marr died in Lanark on 24 February 1877.
