Bio Notes: Thomas Rollo Walker Mossman was born on 1 March 1863 and articled to Robert Rowand Anderson from May 1878 to May 1883, remaining as assistant to Anderson and his partners George Washington Browne and Hew M Wardrop until 1887. During that time he attended Edinburgh University under Professor Baldwin Brown and John Watson's classes at Edinburgh Architectural Association, and narrowly missed winning the gold medal for a proposed restoration of the Odeon of Pericles. At the end of his time with Wardrop and Anderson he spent some three weeks making measured drawings of Kirby Hall, Northampton before moving to London to join first Arthur Cawston and then Thomas Chatfeild Clarke. At some unspecified date he moved to Bath to work for Charles Edward Davis; and from there, around 1890, he obtained a salaried post in the Corporation of the City of London Surveyor's Department under Sydney Perks He was admitted LRIBA on 27 January 1911 his proposers being Perks, Clarke's son Howard Chatfeild Clarke, and John Douglass Mathews, the Tallow Chandlers Company Surveyor. At that date he had travelled in France and Belgium.
