Basic Biographical Details Name: | Angus Moncur Neilson | Designation: | | Born: | 28 July 1906 | Died: | 5 April 1983 | Bio Notes: | Angus Moncur Neilson was born on 28 July 1906 and was articled to John Jerdan of James Jerdan & Son in September 1925. Throughout his five-year apprenticeship he attended morning classes at Edinburgh College of Art, and he continued to study there full-time for two years thereafter. He received a minor travelling bursary enabling him to spend three weeks travelling in 1932, and was awarded a two-week travelling scholarship the following year; the locations he visited remain unknown. He obtained his diploma in June 1933, passed the Professional Practice exam in July 1934 and was admitted ARIBA on 3 December of the latter year, his proposers being Jerdan, John Begg and Frank Charles Mears. His nomination papers do not give a business address but indicate that he was living at that time at Eastfield House, Joppa. In that year he exhibited a design for a public school swimming bath at the Royal Scottish Academy.
By 1939 he had moved to Belfast, where he remained. His RIBA membership was terminated in April 1972, at which time he was living at 16 Ormiston Crescent, Knock, Belfast.
