Basic Biographical Details Name: | Robert Lister MacNeil | Designation: | | Born: | | Died: | 1970 | Bio Notes: | Robert Lister MacNeil was born in the USA and was the second son of the 44th Chief of the Clan Macneil and trained and worked as an architect. He became 45th Chief of the Clan in 1918. He bought his ancestral home, Kisimul Castle, along with most of the island of Barra, in 1937. He visited Scotland both before and during the restoration. He saw active service during World War II. At some point thereafter (as yet the date has not been established) he moved permanently to Scotland (1938 given in some sources is not accurate) and spent the rest of his life restoring the castle. He wrote books on the history of the castle itself and of the MacNeils.
