Bio Notes: Francis Hatch Kimball was born at Kennebunk, Maine on 24 September 1845 and was apprenticed to a carpenter in Maine, subsequently working for the Boston architect Louis P Rogers. He commenced independent practice in Hartford, Connecticut in the early 1870s and moved to New York in 1879, entering into partnership with Thomas Wisedell and establishing a reputation for theatre design. After Wisedell's death in 1884 he contined to practise alone for eight years, with the exception of a one-year period when he worked in association with Henry S Ihnen. In 1892 he entered into partnership with George Kramer Thompson as Kimball &Thompson. This partnership, which was principally involved in tall office buildings and residences, lasted until Kimball's death on 20 December 1919.
