Bio Notes: John MacKintosh was born in 1860 and articled to Alexander Ross of Inverness from 1878 until 1884. In the latter year he moved to Edinburgh as assistant to Robert Wilson on the Edinburgh School Board's building programme but, having passed the Civil Service Examination, left in 1887 to become an assistant in H M Prison Commissioners for Scotland Architects Department and in 1903 was promoted Architect and was employed in 'designing and altering prisons throughout Scotland'. He was admitted LRIBA on 24 June 1912; as he was 'not acquainted with any members of the Royal Institute' he provided a letter of recommendation from [Henry?] Hay of the Caledonian United Services Club. Nothing is yet known of his career after this date.
