Basic Biographical Details

Name: Henry Vincent Eaglesham
Designation:
Born: 28 August 1861
Died: 1901
Bio Notes: Henry Vincent Eaglesham was born on 28 August 1861, the son of Robert Eaglesham and Jane McDowall and the younger brother of John Eaglesham who succeeded John Mercer as Burgh Surveyor of Ayr. Henry had set up independent practice in Ayr, principally as an engineer sometime before 1899; in that year John resigned his post to join Henry as senior partner in the firm of J & H V Eaglesham. Henry's work as an engineer took him abroad for much of his life - to Spain and Tasmania.

About 1900 the practice was joined by William Cowie, born in 1867, as chief draughtsman: Cowie had been articled to A & W Reid in Elgin and had been assistant to Sydney Mitchell & Wilson in Edinburgh and to Clarke & Bell in Glasgow.

Henry died suddenly in Florence in 1901 and Cowie left to commence his own practice in 1904. After his brother's death, John practised alone, although the partnership name was retained.
