Basic Biographical Details

Name: David Smith
Designation:
Born: c. 1805
Died: 1845 or 1846
Bio Notes: David Smith was born about 1805. He was principal architect to James Black of Dundee from 1836 but seems to have undertaken independent commissions. In 1836 he advertised architecture and perspective drawing classes. He lived at Morgan Tower, Nethergate, and on Black's death (24 May 1841), Smith continued his practice. His announcement of independent practice at 8 Reform Street appeared on 1 June 1841. In 1842 he advertised for an apprentice indicating he had a good number of commissions at that time.

Smith died before July 1845 - no death notice has been found. However a notice appeared at that date in the newspapers announcing that Charles Edward had taken over his practice on behalf of Mrs Smith. His will was registered on 29 October 1845.
