Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Little & Son | Designation: | | Born: | Before 1881 | Died: | After 1894 | Bio Notes: | William Little was born on 8 July 1805, the son of John Little, who practised as a wright in Kirkcaldy from c.1804. His father's business address was initially in High Street but moved to 43 Hill Street in 1834 and to 12 Cowan Street in 1835. William was admitted to the Incorporation of Wrights & Masons on 17 November 1840 and succeeded to his father's business when the latter retired or died in the 1840s.
William married Margaret Stark of Abbotshall on 3 July 1832. By 1861 he was employing up to nine men and two boys. His son Robert was taken into partnership in the family firm sometime before 1881; the practice, William Little & Son, was described in directories as 'architects, builders, joiners, lathsplitters, sawmillers & c.'. The Cowan Street premises were advertised for sale in 1888 but directories still list father and son in partnership at the same address in the mid-1890s; however, Robert appears also to have practised under his own name from April 1888, from his home address, Woodbank, Albert Road.
Robert Little died on 7 July 1901 at Kirkcaldy. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 12, 14, 16, Cowan Street, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland | Business | Before 1882 | After 1894 | |
