Basic Biographical Details Name: | Heaton Butler & Bayne | Designation: | | Born: | 1862 | Died: | 1953 | Bio Notes: | Heaton Butler & Bayne was a firm of stained-glass manufacturers based in London. Clement Heaton (born Bradford on Avon, 1824), a glass painter, entered into partnership with James Butler (born Warwick, 1830), a lead glazier, in 1855, initially sharing premises with the newly-established London glass-designing firm of Clayton & Bell, for whom they provided technical expertise. In 1862 they were joined by Robert Turnill Bayne (born near Warwick in 1837), a Pre-Raphaelite artist, the firm becoming Heaton Butler & Bayne. Heaton's pioneering researches into medieval techniques enabled the firm to produce glass in an exceptionally wide range of colours. The firm employed Henry Holiday as a freelance designer between 1864 and 1878. Heaton died in 1882, Butler in 1913 and Bayne in 1915; the practice was continued after their deaths until 1953. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | London, England | Business | | | |
