Bio Notes: James Monteith McLean was born in Paisley c.1893 and apprenticed to John Fairweather c.1908, remaining as assistant until he volunteered for service with the Highland Light Infantry in October 1914. He was sent to Gallipoli in 1915 but survived and was granted a commission as second Lieutenant in the Scottish Rifles. He left in October 1915 for France where he was attached to the 2nd HLI (Territorial) and finally transferred to the Regular HLI. He was killed in action leading a bombing party on 28 April 1916.
