Bio Notes: James Pigott Pritchett was born on 14 October 1789 at St Petrox, Pembrokeshire. He was articled to James Medland of Southwark and subsequently worked in the office of Daniel Asher Alexander for two years, studying at the Royal Academy Schools in 1808. He commenced independent practice in London in 1812. He soon moved to York where he worked in partnership with Charles Watson (c.1770-1836) from 1813 to 1831. He was architect and surveyor to Earl Fitzwilliam at Wentworth Woodhouse.

Pritchett died on 23 May 1868. His son, James Pigott Pritchett Junior (1830-1911) who had a large practice in Darlington which he took over from John Middleton, and grandson, Herbert Dewes Pritchett (born 1859), followed him into the architectural profession.
