Bio Notes: John Lumsdaine was born about 1848, the son of John Lumsdaine, sanitary inspector, and his wife Abigial [sic]. from 1871 he is recorded as being an architect. In 1881 he was married to Jane___ and the couple had two sons and two daughters. He became was a senior assistant to Robert Morham, Edinburgh City Architect, in 1887. However he seems to have begun business on his own account in 1889 and during the later 1890s his income was about £150 per annum. In 1897 he appeared in the Bankruptcy Court. At that time he was in practice at 25 George Street. 'The statutory oath was administered' at the court. At that time he was in debt to the sum of £247.
