Basic Biographical Details

Name: Robert Grant
Designation:
Born: 1840 or 1841
Died: 1910
Bio Notes: Robert Grant was born in Scotland in 1840 or 1841. Nothing is known of his training but he emigrated to Toronto in 1870 and practised as an architect there, initially in partnership with the engineer Lionel York. In 1873 Scottish-born David Brash Dick emigrated to Toronto and joined Grant as an assistant. He was taken into partnership the following year. The partnership was dissolved in 1876 and Grant concentrated thereafter on property development, engaging other contractors to construct his projects; his split with Dick was clearly amicable as they occasionally collaborated in later years.
