Basic Biographical Details Name: | Daniel Andrew Levie | Designation: | | Born: | 1875 | Died: | July 1963 | Bio Notes: | Daniel Andrew Levie was born in Aberdeen in 1875 and educated at Aberdeen Grammar School. About 1890 he was articled to Duncan McMillan in Aberdeen, remaining with the firm after McMillan took his son John Ross McMillan into partnership in 1893. In his FRIBA nomination paper, Levie describes himself as 'assistant architect to Scottish School Board'. Whether that was the Aberdeen School Board Architect's Department as seems likely or some appointment with the Scotch (sic) Education Department is unclear. In 1901 he moved to Cork to work for W H Hill & Son, where he remained until 1913 when he formed a partnership with Robert Chillingworth which was also based in Cork at 11 South Mall. The work of the practice consisted largely of commercial premises and housing developments in and around Cork.
Levie was admitted FRIBA in 1925 and John E Williamson became a partner in 1929. Levie died in July 1963 at The Island, Richestown which had been his home since at least 1914. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 11, South Mall, Cork, Eire | Business | 1913 | | | | The Island, Rochestown, Eire | Private | Before 1914 | 1963 | |
