Basic Biographical Details

Name: Alexander Lorimer
Designation:
Born: 1865
Died:
Bio Notes: Alexander Lorimer was born in 1865, probably in Aberdeen. He was articled to Arthur Clyne of Pirie & Clyne in 1882. In 1887 he moved to the office of Thomas Purves Marwick in Edinburgh as draughtsman, becoming chief assistant c.1895, and remaining in this position at least until Marwick's death in 1927, working on many buildings for the National Bank of Scotland as well as other commercial buildings, churches, mansion houses, villas, tenements, shops, factories and schools. Very unusually for a chief assistant, he was admitted LRIBA in the mass intake of 20 July 1911 and Marwick allowed his name to appear in 'Who's Who in Architecture' in 1914, indicative of his exceptional standing within the office.
