Basic Biographical Details Name: | Robert Blackadder | Designation: | | Born: | 28 September 1860 | Died: | 6 June 1960 | Bio Notes: | Robert Blackadder was born in Edinburgh on 28 September 1860, the son of John Blackadder (1819-99) tenant farmer in Ninewells Mains and East Blanerne and his wife Janet Arnot Beveridge (d.1915) and was baptised in Bunkle and Preston. At the time of the 1881 census he was an apprentice architect living with his aunt Isabella L S Beveridge, boarding house keeper, at 8 Spence Street, Edinburgh along with his sister Isabella and younger brother John. Although he was a nephew of Robert Blackadder of Dundee, there is as yet no record of him working for him. He practised in Edinburgh and was the genealogist of the Blackadder family.
Robert Blackadder married Gwendolen Boddy and they had three sons: John Hew Patrick born 17 December 1908, died 12 December 1963 as a result of injuries sustained whilst in a Japanese POW camp during World War II; Robert Prendergast born 1910, died 1971 and William Francis, born 1913, died 1990.
