Bio Notes: William Blackadder was born about 1782 in Buncle Berwickshire. He was factor and civil engineer at Glamis. He would appear to have been the estate architect for the Earl of Southesk as he undertook a number of farm surveys at Kinnaird during from the late 1820s until the early 1840s, probably with a view to ungrading the farm buildings. His wife was Betsy Bailey. He was the uncle of Robert Blackadder (born 1833), who was articled to him and who worked in partnership with him during the late 1850s and at the beginning of the 1860s. In 1851 they lived in the same house at Glamis. Also living there were some of his wife's Bailey relatives.

Not long after his uncle's death on 20 October 1860, Robert closed the Glamis practice.
