Bio Notes: John Maclennan was born on 15 February 1903, the son of architect Harbourne Maclennan, of Jenkins & Marr, Aberdeen and his wife Helen Mungall. He was articled to his father's firm in 1921, attending classes at Aberdeen School of Architecture during this period and remaining as assistant and later chief assistant. He passed the qualifying exam in 1927 and was admitted ARIBA on 5 December that year, his proposers being John Ross McMillan, Robert Gordon Wilson Junior and Alexander Marshall Mackenzie.

Maclennan was taken into partnership by his father in 1935 and had become senior partner by 1956. He was admitted FRIBA in that year, proposed by George Angus Mitchell, John Gibb Marr and Alexander Buchanan Gardner. He was responsible for numerous housing schemes for Aberdeen County Council and for the burghs of Ballater and Kintore. In 1950 Maclennan was President of the Aberdeen Society of Architects. The practice continued to undertake a wide range of commissions including private houses, work for the Union Bank of Scotland and Aberdeen Savings Bank, alterations and redecoration of churches in Aberdeen and the conversion of a building for an old people's home.

Maclennan died on 13 May 1969, survived by his wife Kathleen Mackenzie.
