Bio Notes: George Hendry Jolly was born in Brechin about 1834, the son of Charles Jolly, handloom weaver and his wife Mary Hendry. He was one of a large family and did not attend college.

He trained with a large shipbuilding and engineering firm in Glasgow where his ability as a draughtsman became clear. He declined the offer of work abroad and instead went to Aberdeen where he was employed by several firms. In the census of of 1871 he is described as a joiner and 1881 as a master carpenter employing two men. He had therefore started business on his own account by this date. By 1891 he is described as an architect. He practised in Aberdeen and the countryside around the city. His obituarist claimed he designed 'some of the finest buildings' around Banchory.

He was living at 61 Holborn Street in 1894 when his wife, Elizabeth Robertson Elliethorn, died. She died intestate suggesting that she died young. He married again in due course.

Jolly was a member of hte Aberdeen Master Mason's Association and attended meetings. He would appear to have been the architect for the company Thomson, Marshall & Co Ltd and he was one of the platform party at the eigth annual social meeting of the company.

Jolly died at his home in Aberdeen on 10 February 1911.
