Bio Notes: Charles Francis Hansom was born on 27 July 1817 to a York Roman Catholic family. His father was a joiner, and he was the brother of Joseph Aloysius Hansom, with whom he practised in partnership in London from 1854. This partnership was dissolved in 1859 when Charles established an independent practice in Bath, with his son Edward Joseph Hansom (born 22 October 1842) as apprentice. He took his son into partnership in 1867, by which time the practice had moved to Bristol, but the partnership was dissolved in 1871 when Edward moved to Newcastle upon Tyne to practise with Archibald Matthias Dunn.

Charles Francis Hansom died on 30 November 1888.
