Basic Biographical Details

Name: William Knight
Designation:
Born: c. 1808
Died: After 1868
Bio Notes: William Knight was born in Middlesex in about 1808. He was practising as an architect and surveyor in Aberdeen by 1837-38. In the 1841 census he is recorded as living in Mitchell Place with his wife, Angelina, and two daughters and two sons. However Angelina died in childbirth aged 39 in September 1844 and her infant daughter died two days later. He was declared bankrupt in 1851. However this seems to have had little effect as he continued to practice. By 1851 only his daughters, Angelina and Hannah Hill King, were living with him.

He commenced practice again. He acted as agent for selling houses in Constitution Street and South Constittution Street in 1865. In 1867 he stood for election as a Police Commissioner but it is not clear if he was successful. He was practising from 88 King Street, Aberdeen in 1868. He probably died before 1871. His daughter seems to have returned to Middlesex where by 1871 she was living with her brother in law and sister. In 1875 she married the son of a minister from South Africa. The marriage took place in Camden Town.
