Bio Notes: Hugh Gavin was born in 1858 in Malta where his father was an instructor in navigation. He was brought up in Stirling from the age of 7 and was articled there. He formed a partnership with an unidentified Croll c.1889 with Croll being based in Dundee. In 1891 Gavin set up on his own account in practice in Arbroath and the partnership was dissolved in 1893. Thereafter Gavin opened branch offices in Montrose and Forfar. By the early years of the twentieth century he had formed a partnership with T R Soutar, with Gavin based in Arbroath and Soutar in Forfar. Gavin remained in Arbroath until his death on 15 April 1927. His office was at 42 Hill Street.
