Basic Biographical Details Name: | Lake Falconer (senior) | Designation: | | Born: | 29 September 1849 | Died: | 28 September 1929 | Bio Notes: | Lake Falconer was born at Collace on 29 September 1949, the son of William Falconer. His brother was James Grewar Falconer. The practice of Lake and James was founded in Blairgowrie in the early 1880s. Lake intially described himself as a clerk of works (at the time of his marriage to Mary Bisset) but at the time his first child was born he described himself as 'architect'.
Their background is not yet known. A branch office was opened in Fort William before 1900 and then another at 22 Alexandra Place, Oban, which became the main office. Most of their practice was estate work, most of their buildings being in a lightweight harled idiom with half-timbered gables. Lake Falconer's son, Lake Falconer Junior, was born at Blairgowrie, 16 June 1882, the fourth child and third son of the ten children of Lake senior. He was educated at Dundee High School and University College, Dundee, was an apprentice in the Blairgowrie office under Lake Senior, 1898-1902, remaining there as assistant until 1910 when he moved to J G Falconer's Fort William and Oban offices.
Lake Falconer senior died on 29 September 1929 at his home, The Alders, Rattray. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | James Street Cottage, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland | Private | 1881 * | After 1891 | | | Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland | Business | Early 1880s | | | | Fort William, Scotland | | 1899 | | Building News 8 December 1899 | | 22, Alexandra Place, Oban, Argyll, Scotland | Business | c. 1900 | | | | Hillside House/21, James Street, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland | Private | 1901 | | | | 4, Cameron Square, Fort William, Inverness-shire, Scotland | Business | 1912 * | | | | The Alders, Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland | Private | 1917 * | | |
