Basic Biographical Details Name: | Thomas Mair Copland | Designation: | | Born: | 23 November 1866 | Died: | 6 March 1942 | Bio Notes: | Thomas Mair Copland was born on 23 November 1866 in Laurieston, Stirlingshire, the son of John Copland and Elizabeth Mair. He served his apprenticeship with James Strang of Falkirk and set up business on his own account sometime before 1897. He took Alexander Nisbet Malcolm into partnership, probably on the latter's return from war service in 1919. The partnership was dissolved in 1921 when Malcolm was appointed Stirling County Architect. Copland then took Leonard Cawood Blakey into partnership, the firm thereafter being known as Copland & Blakey. In the late 1920s and early 1930s they worked with James Gavin Callander on branches for the local Co-operative Society.
Copland was prominent in local masonic circles and was for time Master of his Lodge, No 88 Falkirk. He was also an enthusiastic bowler, being a life-long member of the Falkirk Bowling Club. His wife was Helen Millar. He died in Edinburgh on 6 March 1942, leaving moveable estate of £2,197 13s 11d. Blakey remained in the practice until his death on 19 February 1968 when it was taken over by Ronald B Blakey.
[Copland also made alterations to farms for Callendar Estates at Tippetcraig, Parkhead, Doghilloch, Garth, Muirhead, Kirkland, Middlefield, Lochlands, Loanfoot and Rashiehill (information per Geoff Bailey at Falkirk Council Museums services)] | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 4, Learmonth Street, Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland | Private | | | | | 87, High Street, Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland | Business | 1899 | | | | 76, High Street, Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland | Business | 1911 * | | |
