Basic Biographical Details

Name: John Cunningham
Designation:
Born: c. 1852
Died: 23 March 1904
Bio Notes: John Cunningham was born in Aberdeen c.1852, the son of Peter Cunningham, ironmonger and his wife Ann Burness. He was probably articled in Aberdeen and may have spent some time in Brechin as he married Mary Ann Black there on 31 December 1875. Shortly thereafter he moved to Glasgow where he built up a large tenement practice.

Cunningham died of phthisis at 138 Cambridge Drive, Glasgow on 23 March 1904, aged fifty-one. He was survived by his wife and children Mary Ann Burness, James, Rhoda Jane and Peter. The practice was continued by Alexander L Kerr in John Cunningham's name, suggesting that his widow owned the business, possibly with her son James. In 1909 Kerr's partnership was acknowledged when the practice became Cunningham & Kerr.
