Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Clark | Designation: | | Born: | 1871 | Died: | May 1933 | Bio Notes: | William Clark was born in 1871 and educated at Dundee High School, University College Dundee and through private classes in mathematics and trigonometry with John Stuart, and in watercolour and sketching with artists D Ramsay Sellars and C G L Phillips, all of Dundee. He served a five-year apprenticeship under Alexander McCulloch, leaving him to work for sixteen years as assistant in the office of John Bruce & Son, followed by eighteen months with the Town Council of the Burgh of Broughty Ferry, six months with Thomas Martin Cappon, and six months with Maclaren & Soutar. He then moved to the office of James Sibbald, where he was chief draughtsman for some years. He was elected LRIBA on 24 June 1912, proposed by William Fleming Wilkie and the Dundee Institute of Architects. At this time he was still assisting Sibbald but had also been appointed Burgh Surveyor and Master of Works in Tayport, a position which he held for eighteen years.
