Bio Notes: William Smith practised as an architect and builder in Montrose in the second and third decades of the 19th century. He was probably the William Smith, builder of Montrose who died in Rattray, Blairgowrie on 12 September 1844. His obituarist describes him as an 'enterprising builder' and continues 'Few men engaged extensively in public business have been so fortunate as the deceased'. He erected various bridges, quays and 'other public works'.
