Basic Biographical Details Name: | J Craig Barr & Cook | Designation: | | Born: | 1904 | Died: | c. 1918 | Bio Notes: | James Craig Barr was articled to Thomas Graham Abercrombie and studied at the Glasgow School of Art during 1898-99. He seems to have worked largely in Paisley but also carried out some work in Glasgow. In 1904 he entered into partnership with Henry (Harry) Cook, who had been a fellow apprentice in Abercrombie's office and had studied at the Technical School and School of Design, Paisley. Their first joint project was Makerston House in Paisley, and their only major building the North of Scotland Bank in Paisley, an outstanding essay in Beaux-Arts clasicism, designed in 1909. The partnership was dissolved c.1918, and in the following year Cook took into partnership Andrew Hamilton, also from Thomas Graham Abercrombie's office, the practice becoming Cook & Hamilton. No work by Craig Barr subsequent to the dissolution of the partnership with Cook ha been traced.
