Basic Biographical Details Name: | James Thomson | Designation: | | Born: | c. 1784 | Died: | 1832 | Bio Notes: | James Thomson was born in Edinburgh about 1784. He moved to Dumfries to convert the chapel in Buccleuch Street into a courthouse. He remained in Dumfries and in due course became convener of trades. He designed various simple churches in Dumfriesshire.
He died of cholera during the epidemic of 1832. As a member of the recently formed Board of Health he was involved in trying to combat this. His son George was an engineer and died at Poona in 1842, aged 27.
