Bio Notes: Richard Mills Close was born in 1880, the son of the architect Samuel Patrick Close and his wife Lucinda Burleigh. He was educated in England before becoming articled to his father. In 1910 he was taken into partnership by his father and had effectively taken charge of the practice by 1915. In 1915 he succeeded William Harvey Lynn as architect to Queen's University Belfast and in 1923 he was appointed architect to St Anne's Cathedral Belfast.

He died in Carrickfergus onv 21 April 1941, survived by his wife, Kathleen whom he had married c.1930.
