Bio Notes: Little is known of the personal details of William Clarke of Strichen. He was born about 1798 in Strichen in Aberdeenshire. He worked as an architect in the 1850s and 1860s. In the Census of 1861 he is described as 'proprietor of houses' and in the 1871 Census as 'retired merchant'. He is said to have started life as a merchant but later turned his hand to architecture. His wife was Margaret Taylor. He was 'in failing health' in 1866. He died on 3 May 1879.
