Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Malcolm McClure Anderson | Designation: | | Born: | 18 July 1913 | Died: | 22 August 1990 | Bio Notes: | John Malcolm McClure Anderson was born on 18 July 1913, the son of the architect Henry McClure Anderson (born c.1877) who was practising in China by the mid-1920s and his wife Margaret Pretty Ross. He studied full-time at Edinburgh College of Art from October 1931 until 1937, with the exception of the period from August 1934 to August 1935 when he sought practical experience in an unspecified office. He travelled in Denmark and Sweden in July 1936. After obtaining his diploma on 17 June 1937 he spent some time studying in Paris before returning to Edinburgh to join Rowand Anderson, Paul & Partners as assistant. He was still in that office when he was admitted ARIBA on 4 April 1938, his proposers being Arthur Forman Balfour Paul, Henry McClure Anderson and Thomas Craigie Marwick.
Anderson's RIBA membership was terminated in November 1978 after he ceased to pay the subscription fees. He had latterly been working at the Scottish Special Housing Association in Edinburgh.
