Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Michael Fox | Designation: | | Born: | 25 September 1912 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | John Michael Fox was born on 25 September 1912 and was articled to Orphoot, Whiting & Lindsay of Edinburgh on 23 September 1930. On completing his three-year apprenticeship he commenced the diploma course at Edinburgh College of Art on 1 October 1933. Whilst studying he gave periodical assistance to 'Mr Leslie Thompson … of Edinburgh' - presumably Leslie Grahame-Thompson - and to James Robertson, a former assistant of Grahame-Thompson's who set up independent practice in the mid-1930s. Fox was a successful student, gaining the Andrew Grant Scholarship and being a finalist for the Tite Prize. He obtained his diploma in June 1937 and was admitted ARIBA on 6 December that year, his proposers being Burnett Napier Henderson Orphoot, William Higgins Henry of Dunoon, and Harbottle Reed of Exeter. Prior to that time he had spent up to four weeks in France, Sweden, Denmark, Holland and the south of England, where he studied domestic and ecclesiastical work.
Fox later emigrated to Australia.
