Basic Biographical Details Name: | Albert Hartwell | Designation: | | Born: | 12 March 1906 | Died: | 1974 | Bio Notes: | Albert Hartwell was born on 12 March 1906 and was articled to Pritchard, Godwin & Clist of Bank Buildings, Kidderminster from April 1922, studying at Kidderminster School of Art, Birmingham School of Art and under 'Mr G Drysdale FRIBA'. He remained with the same firm as assistant after completing his apprenticeship, during which time he was admitted an Associate of the Incorporated Association of Architects and Surveyors. In October 1931 he was appointed by the Glasgow-based cinema and industrial specialist George Arthur Boswell to run a branch office in Wolverhampton. He was still in that position, under the post of chief assistant, when he was admitted LRIBA on 19 June 1945, his proposers being Boswell, W Allan Wood and Hubert Clist. Boswell wrote in his supporting statement: 'he has acted as Chief Assistant in connection with important works in the Wolverhampton area. His knowledge of design and construction eminently qualify him to become a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects.'
Hartwell was elected FRIBA in 1968 and is still listed in the RIBA Directory in 1970. He does not appear in the Directory for 1979.
