Bio Notes: William Halkerston was born on 8 July 1909 and was articled to T Scott Sutherland of Aberdeen on 9 September 1927. After three years in that office he commenced full-time classes at the School of Architecture, Robert Gordon's Colleges. He obtained his diploma on 14 June 1933 and from August 1933 to April 1934 he sought practical experience with G W Bruce Esq, precast concrete manufacturer, studying building methods and carrying out experimental work in concrete. Thereafter he returned to Sutherland's office for two months for further experience, particularly focussing on cinema work.

Halkerston moved to London and joined the LCC Town Planning Department on 12 July 1934. He was admitted ARIBA on 11 February the following year, his proposers being R Leslie Rollo, T Scott Sutherland and John Gibb Marr. His nomination papers state that he was still with the LCC, in the Building Act Section, at that time, although they give his private address as 71 Fonthill Road, Aberdeen. He remained at this address in Aberdeen until the late 1940s but moved to a post in Bournemouth before 1950. By 1970 he had risen to become borough architect there.

Halkerston died between July and September 1983 at Bournemouth.
