Bio Notes: Ronald McPherson Watson Young was born on 28 June 1909, the son of James Taylor Young, cabinetmaker and his wife. He was articled to John Rutherford Johnstone of Troon for four years from May 1925, studying at Glasgow School of Art from c.1926. On completion of his apprenticeship in May 1929 he joined the office of Keppie & Henderson in Glasgow as junior draughtsman, and in August 1931 transferred to the firm of Gillespie, Kidd & Coia where he spent four years as senior and head draughtsman. Whilst in that office he travelled in France in June 1932 and obtained his course certificate from the Glasgow School of Art in June 1933.

Young travelled to Belgium in July 1935 and passed the RIBA final exam in Edinburgh in December 1935 of that year. He was admitted ARIBA on 9 March 1936, his proposers being Thomas Harold Hughes, William James Smith and Andrew Graham Henderson. By that time he had secured a post in the Glasgow Corporation Education Offices and was living at 'Coniston', 4 Morven Drive, Troon. He was elected FRIAS in 1954

He resigned his RIBA membership in December 1974. He died on 26 February 2003 at Strachan House, Craigcrook Road, Edinburgh. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Henderson McGeachie Rock and survived by his son.
