Bio Notes: George Buchanan was born in Montrose in 1790, the son of David Buchanan. He worked as a civil engineer, particularly concerned with bridges and waterside structures. He is presumably the Buchanan who was responsible for the 1824 plans for Arbroath Harbour. He died in Edinburgh on 30 October 1852. His son, also George Buchanan (1834-1902), followed him into the same profession.
