Basic Biographical Details Name: | David Beveridge Burnie | Designation: | | Born: | c. 1858 | Died: | 19 June 1909 | Bio Notes: | David Beveridge Burnie was born about 1858, the son of James Jardine Burnie, bank agent and his wife Jane Beveridge. By 1887 he was living and probably working from 13 McLaren Road. By 1889 he was working from offices at 21 St Andrew Square, but by 1892 he had moved to 10A North St David Street where he shared premises with Charles Stewart Still Johnston. There is no evidence of any formal partnership having existed, but the two worked together on the winning competition design for West Fife Infectious Diseases Hospital in 1892-3. Burnie appears to have suffered a mental breakdown in about 1893 and was admitted to Murray's Asylum in Perth following which James Aynsworth Lindsay, who had been working with him in Johnston's office, completed his works in progress and wound up his business.
